My first dragcave oriented story. Trust Akeena to be the first.
Akeena’s Shining Glory
Our story begins long ago, and way before the time of the pink dragons being able to influence an egg to become a specific gender - why back then it was believed that the pink dragons were, and could only be female.
The young silver dragon had lived with her parents in one cave and her mother told her that Silver dragons were special, “We are a rare and noble breed and much sought after by others. I am proud that you can take after my lineage.”
But then came the day when the young girl matured showing the pink frills along the neck and down the back. The owner of the cave was not impressed. “ I didn’t want another girl, I wanted a male silver. I’m sorry she has to go and be put up for adoption.”
The young silver trembled where would she go what would become of her? Though her mother tried to plead and beg for her to allow the girl to stay the owner was firm telling her, she was bound to have other children and that the girl would most likely be picked up by someone who wanted her.
The young girl was sent off and away then, her heart sad she bowed her head, small tears trickled down her cheek. She was scared and alone in a big world. ‘What if noone wants me because I’m a girl? ’ She mused to herself, and although she was a silver her colour seemed to become almost a dull grey with her sorrows.
Someone, and most likely many people saw her for adoption each hoping to get the young silver for themselves, perhaps a few of them all ready had silvers but one of the applicants had not been able to aquire a silver for her cave as of yet, and this girl now prayed, “Oh please let me get her, please let me have her. I’d love to have a silver for my own to join my cave and I never seem able to catch them.”
The wait seemed intolerably long but it was finally confirmed the adoption papers came through proving that yes the young silver dragon was hers, now.
The young girl looked around the cave nervously, there was some pinks, purples, white, gray, black warriors , fiery reds and others all ready in the cave but there was no sign of a silver or other gold there.
Many of the other dragons gathered around to greet and welcome her, until a white female by the name of La Ghostseek pushed the others back with her wings and neck. “ Don’t crowd the child give her some room, you’ll overwhelm her at this rate.”
A pink dragon unfurled her wing draping it gently over the child, Ratelay was the oldest dragon in the cave, the first egg to be found and cared for. “ There child, cheer up it’s all right now. This is your new home here with us,” she explained patiently, “ and we are very happy to have one of your kind here to grace our home with your beauty.”
Tolok the gray dragon, and the first male dragon in that cave chuckled, “ You call her beauty her scales hardly show much more colour then my own. Besides, our owner has often lamented that she wants more males then females, so why pick up another girl.”
The Silver girl ducked her head, was it true? Had she ended up in a place that would treat her unkindly just because she was a girl? And what in the world was wrong with being a female for that matter?
Skana, the purple dragon laughed at Tolok, “Ohhh get on with you. This is the first silver to grace our cave and she may bring all of us luck. Why, I’ve seen a few other silvers here or there - now and again they must have flown far from other caves and places but they are the most beautiful dragons ever to be found.”
Ratelay nodded, the owner came in and stroked the small silver “ Let’s see you need a name, a name suited to your regalness I think - not Flicka, or any other little girl name….something special, more unique I think…” She considered for a moment while stroking some of the dragons in the cave, “ ahhhh, I think I have it, you will be called Akeena.”
Akeena soon settled into her new home and she often practiced her flying she was still new to it, and silver dragons not having wings could not fly in the same way as the winged dragons. Sometimes Akeena would just sit and watch the others flying. One male dragon particularly, caught her eye he was so graceful and his displays in flight so stunning that he was a joy to watch, his name was Areialist and he was a handsome Skywing dragon, the first of his kind in the cave.
Areialist spent most his time swooping, diving and flying at high speeds coming daringly close to mountain cliff faces, or the ground below pulling away at the last moment. He rarely came into the cave itself, as he much preferred to live his life on the wing.
Ariealist saw the young silver Akeena and glided up to her the next time she was out practicing, “So you are flying huh? Need some pointers?” He asked her kindly.
Akeena blushed a rosy pink down her whole body practically, and tried to keep from giggling as she said “ yes, if you don’t mind.” She could hardly believe that Ariealist would want to spend time with her.
But Ariealist liked the new comer and he was fascinated with the glow that came shining off her. For some time he did his best to help her and her flying greatly improved under his tutelage.
By the time Akeena was an adult, she was an impressive flyer in her own way and she still loved matching flying moves with Ariealist. It seemed only natural for the two to mate.
Her first few eggs were Skywing eggs, by then she was no longer the only silver in the cave a few more had come in. Then there was her first silver egg, followed soon by other silver eggs.
“Akeena there are other dragons I would love to bring into the cave, rare and special ones would you mind, dear one, giving me the silver eggs to trade?”
Akeena considered, she had a good home and a good mate - she was loved and knew it. So she consented and almost felt obliged to give more silver eggs so her owner could get the valuable items she needed that she was unable to get other wise.
Akeena was happy to contribute and felt even more grateful when some of her own silver children were welcome to stay and live in the cave, but even more wonderful in her eyes, was seeing that some of the common children and grandchildren were allowed to stay as well.
Akeena often mated with others, she felt she could not be tied down to just Ariealist alone, so many other dragons seemed to love her that she could not help but once in a while mate with another but her love for her Skywing mate often had her returning.
Some of the other silver’s even looked upon Akeena with awe, “ she shines so brightly, and she is one of the head leaders of our cave and there is no doubt why she is known as a favourite with the one who comes here.”
It was true, Akeena’s shining glory came with the love she had found within this home and the long line of children, grandchildren or great- grandchildren in the cave that bore her name as part of the lineage, true she had not given a silver egg for some time, but she had proved her worth, and her value by being only herself.
“Mother was right I do come from a rare lineage.”
