Chapter one: Where all trouble begins.
A boy magi hatchling walked the dark, scary woods, with only the moon to guide it to his prey and back home. He hadn't eaten in days, and felt starved.
Then, he heard the scariest laugh he ever heard!
He turned, but saw nothing.
He heard it again, but closer now!
He went on a tree then looked around, but found nothing.
He heard it come closer...Then it stopped.
Now he was really afraid. The attack always happened when the noise stopped.
He jumped to another tree.
Then he saw a shadow of a cross swaying.
Before he could get away, though, he got knocked out of the tree from behind.
He blacked out.
Once he woke up, he was surrounded by two big white dragons. He knew they were trying to heal him, too. But it wasn't working.
A human came in. Ignoring him, she asked with worry to the white dragons "Any luck with healing him?"
"No. It must have been a hard vampire bite, since I can't heal it." One of them, a boy white dragon, said.
She knew something he didn't, he knew, because she said "Guess you're right. How much time do we have to figure out how to cure him?"
"Two and a half, maybe three weeks." The other white dragon said.
Then, out of nowhere, a voice, cutting like a vine dragons voice, but sounding too sweet to be a vine, said "I think my grandmothers mother can help with this. Mind if I visit her?"
"I don't mind Little Merigold." Mystic said.
Then Little Merigold left.
When she got to Miss Isa, her grandmothers mother, she was sitting on the floor, half asleep.
Miss Isa knew why Little Merigold came. A magi came into the family after a vampire attack, and Little Merigold wanted to know how to cure vampiracy, or whatever being a vampire was.
Miss Isa: Hello Little Merigold.
Little Merigold: Hello Miss Isa.
It was costume to call those of her family she respected by name, at least for them.
Miss Isa: Let me guess... You came here because you want to cure your friends vampire bite and its effects?
Little Merigold: You can read minds, can't you?
Miss Isa: Used to, but now I'm getting old, and I'm tired of the headaches I get from it. Anyway, I don't know how to help you with that for sure, but there are two ways that might work.
Little Merigold: What are they?
Miss Isa: Either you have to find who bit him, and kill him/her, or you have to kill the King of Vampires.
Little Merigold: King of Vampires?
Miss Isa: Yes, the King of Vampires. He is the one who rules them, and whenever he bites someone, every vampire becomes stronger. If a vampire bites someone, then, along with that one vampire, he becomes stronger. The position is passed on from one boy vampire to the next chosen boy vampire. If there are no chosen ones already vampires, the king himself bites the next one, and every vampire is to protect the king until the chosen one becomes a full vampire.
Little Merigold: How long does that take?
Miss Isa: For normal bitten ones, two weeks max. For chosen ones, three weeks at the least.
Little Merigold: How accurate is a white dragon when guessing?
Miss Isa: Usually right on.
Little Merigold: Alright. Thanks Miss Isa. See you later.
Miss Isa: Alright, I'll see you later. First you must find out if one of those work, because your mother, Miss Merigold would freak if she knew you wanted to go up against the king of Vampires. She freaked out enough when you went up against...Szabaru, was it? If she knew you were doing this, she'd say no and not let you out of her sight.
Little Merigold: Yeah, I get the point.
So she went on her way home.
On her way, she saw another vampire. A girl one, completely white. She looked new and confused, and not harmful.
"Hello?" Little Merigold called.
"Hi...Um...Where are we, exactly?" She asked.
"Pine forest, I believe." Little Merigold said.
"Thank you. Now I remember what I was doing here." She said.
"Why are you here, then?" Little Merigold asked.
"Will you promise not to tell if I tell you?" She asked.
"I promise I wont tell anyone." Little Merigold said.
"The reason is I'm looking for a better way to cure...Well...This." She said, looking at herself.
"I get it. Is there any way you know of?" Little Merigold asked. She didn't notice that she started to glow some.
"Yes. Only one way I know of works. For me to cure myself that way, I have to kill the King of Vampires. I'm not strong enough to do that, though." She said, then went away to get away from what would normally be an eye irritation, but with the power put in it it was harmful.
Little Merigold continued on her way, and vampires stayed out of her path. One of them, and only one, knew what it was.
The ancient magic that wiped most of them out must have returned. She went to tell the king right away about the vine with the magic.
Once she got home, she saw the magi was sleeping on Mystics lap. A sure sign that Mystics healing wonder and Healerstar had given up on healing him.
"Did your visit help any? I don't want to be his next meal when he becomes a vampire--"
The magi woke up and gave a nasty glare at him.
"--If he becomes a vampire." He finished, not noticing the glare.
The magi went back to sleep.
"Yes, in a way. There is one way, but you guys wont like it at all."
"What is it?" Mystic prompted.
"In order for it to work, someone has to kill the current King of Vampires." Little Merigold said.
Mystic looked horrified. She knew how tough he would be.
The magi looked confused. Little Merigold bet he was wondering who the king of vampires was.
"Is there any other way? Any at all?" Mystic asked.
"Not that works, I bet." Little Merigold said.
She stopped herself from saying anything that shouldn't be said around the hatchling.
"If you're going to do it, at least take help with you. Me, if nobody else." Mystic said.
"Alright, if you want to." Little Merigold said.
"Either way, how are you going to be able to do that if you don't know where he is?" Healerstar asked.
Mystic and Little Merigold "...We find out."
"How?"
"I don't know." Little Merigold said. Mystic said nothing.
It was a week of purely failing to find the place where the king would be.
The magi felt some urge to go somewhere. He wasn't sure why, but he just had an absolute need to go to this somewhere.
He went to wake up Little Merigold, knowing that it'd be important to her if he found where the king was in his trip.
He saw a light glow. It hurt a little, but he followed it.
He looked, and it came from her vines. They dimmed at that point, making what hurt now only an irritation.
"Pss." He whispered in a soft voice only she could hear.
She woke up, and her light dimmed completely for a moment. It was like she had power that she didn't know she was using and she didn't know she had it. So she couldn't control it.
It was just plain odd.
He lead the way, and she followed. The light to his back was better than the light in front of him, and it helped nether one of them be blind.
Once she got to where the magi lead, up to a castle up way above the north pole--the closer they got, the more it went to the illogical side and made it seem like a dream--it got warmer the closer they got, and it smelled more and more like death and danger.
Once they were on the grounds of the castle, the magi looked like he was wondering why whatever lead him here did.
It was completely black now. The darkness of the castle seemed to be consuming, making it look like a big monster wanting to eat both of them.
The magi wasn't in danger though.
She was the one in danger here. She didn't belong here, but she had to come here sometime.
"Hello. What brings you here exactly?" A voice asked.
"Instinct." The magi said.
Little Merigold said nothing.
"Wait a minute... I think I know who you are... Now If I could just remember the name of it..." The voice said, thinking hard.
"The...Um...Chosen one, possibly?" Little Merigold asked, and tilt her head ever so slightly to look at the person the voice belonged to.
The magi looked confused.
"Yeah." The guard said. The face of the vampire was still hiding in shadows, ready to strike the vine dragon she proved dangerous.
There's something unsettling about her... The guard thought, but couldn't put his odd dark green claws on it.
"If you were asking to pass, you may. But I'm keeping an eye on you." He said, looking at the vine dragon feeling ill at ease.
They passed though the gate, and into more dangers than they could name. If they were a threat, and the Magi was pretending to be the chosen one and they found out, nether one of them would make it out alive.
Once they were in, all the vampires looked at them. All of them looked ill at ease when they looked at Little Merigold, but seemed to relax a little when they looked at the magi.
Little Merigold knew she couldn't ask. She thought they looked at her like that because, unlike the magi, she wasn't welcome here.
It wasn't like that at all, but, if things were to go well, the magi would be the only one to know by the end of this visit.
They got to where the king usually was. The room was guarded by strengthened warriors, who were strong but wise. They would attack without warning if they proved they could hurt the king. They needed to these days--Many Vampire hunters had tried to kill the king, and many Dragons owners had tried to take him, along with many other vampires. This always happened when the chosen one had to be bitten. Once the chosen one was fully transformed into a vampire, no human or vampire hunter can find it until next time, saving all the vampires from actual death.
They looked at Little Merigold, not sure whether to trust her or not, even though the chosen one was right next to her.
After a while of silence, they silently got out of their way, and the doors opened. The king was on his guard, but did not look at Little Merigold the way the others had. He knew her family, and he knew she was different. But she didn't know, so unless it came out during this visit, it wasn't like she could hurt him.
"Hello, chosen one." He said, looking at the magi.
"You can call me Magi Guard, if you want." He said.
"Magi guard, if you prefer. What brings you here so early?" He asked.
"Oh, instinct pretty much." He said.
"And what brings you're friend, Little Merigold along with you?" He asked, turning to Little Merigold.
"How do you know my name?" She asked.
"I know plenty of things. That was just one of the things I know." He said, hiding the facts better not revealed.
"Just a thought that came to me, but what makes the chosen ones...Well...Chosen, exactly?" Magi Guard asked.
"I don't really know, honestly. Those that can stand ancient light, even when becoming a vampire are the ones chosen, even if they'd make a horrible ruler. Luckily, for those that don't know how to rule, or are horrible, the last King of Vampires usually gives the orders still. Usually it doesn't happen though." He said.
"Ancient Light?" He asked.
"Yes, ancient light. To explain it more, I would have to tell about the times when vampires could barely walk the street, even at night. Not a memory I'd like to go back to. But, if you want, I can tell it to you anyway." He said.
"Please do." Magi Guard said.
"A long time ago, before the only one that survived was born, along with Vampire dragons with no ruler (because the vampires didn't think they needed one back then), there were dragons of all species that had a special light that could kill a vampire if they tried. If they didn't but the light was still dimly there, then it could just burn our eyes if we looked at it, and burn whatever was touching it. It couldn't put us on fire, but it would still hurt.
Anyway, one day the vampires started to terrify the humans and kill the dragons that could gain that light. The ones that already had it knew they had to do something, or every dragon would either be dead or become one of us.
They did.
They combined their power, all of the ancient light in all of them, and put it in the one the ones that wanted to change this world for the 'better' supposedly. Only one was willing, surprisingly. Her name had gotten lost in history, but I do know that it was Miss Isa's great great grandmothers mother. That's all I know about the one who changed how we do things.
She used her light, and cast it all over the land. Every Vampire died a fast but horrible and painful death. Those that were not trying to terrify the humans turned back to whatever they were before, with a mark. They died shortly afterward, though.
There was one unchanged one, one that stayed a vampire and survived though it, though.
Once he regained his strength, he bit one dragon with an overpowering hunger, thus the Vampire population grew back up again almost as quick as it just about died out. Once the population was big enough, he asked that the vampires would accept the idea of a King of Vampires. Once he explained what the King of Vampires must do, and will do, the people gladly accepted his idea.
He's still alive, and chooses who the next King of the Vampires are. If you don't think you'd make a good ruler and he was mistaken about his choice, then you can speak to him. Though Little Merigold can't come with you if you do." He finished.
"Can you promise that, as long as she doesn't try to do anything against your rules, that she wont get hurt if I do?" Magi Guard asked.
"If that is what you wish, then I promise." He said.
"Alright. Where is he, exactly?" Magi Guard asked.
He pointed to the room above, floating in mid air.
He flew up, and saw, indeed, he was right. There was a very old vampire in that room. He motioned him over.
He came to him.
The vampire smiled a kindhearted smile, and asked the chosen one who chose to be called Magi Guard "What do you wish to speak to me about?"
"Are you sure you picked the right king, exactly?" He asked.
"Yes, honestly. Once you learn, you'd make a good one. It isn't as hard as you think, now that they get transported here during the day and none of the vampires left have an overpowering hunger. If you need the help, the one you just talked to can help." He said, still having that kindhearted smile on his face.
"So...What lead you to choosing me?" He asked.
"The same thing that lead you here. The same thing that lead you to the forest where the King found you at. The same thing that got you though most of your life. Instinct. It's the best skill I had to rely on, and I've almost never chose wrong. If I had, a new chosen one quickly took his place, since sometimes there was more than one chosen one alive." He said.
"Do you still have to rely on it?" He asked.
"Hopefully yes. The only other way to know, the only way to know for sure is a test against ancient light. He told you the story about that, obviously." He said.
"Yes." He said.
"Well, you're friend...Little Merigold, was it?" He asked.
"Yes." He said.
"She has ancient light inside her. Her whole family does, but every family member except her lost it because they wouldn't be able to handle its power or would use it the wrong way before they could figure it out. It's probably going to stay with her until she dies now, if my senses are right." He said. His kindhearted smile faded as he said that.
"If she never finds out--"
"She will. She will. They always do." He said.
"Does that mean that's she's going to be in danger?" He asked.
"That is entirely up to you. If you don't decline the job, and you do well as a ruler, which I know you will if you don't decline the job, then she's safe." He said.
Before he could say anything, he said "But it is also up to her. If she tries to kill any of the vampires, she will be in danger. If she tries to make it so you can have a normal life by trying to kill the Current King, then she will be in grave danger. If she's willing to risk it, then it's out of your hands." He said.
"Is there a way to be the King of Vampires and still look like a normal magi?" He asked.
"Unfortunately, no. If there was, I bet every king would choose that option." He said.
"Oh..." He said.
"Though there are ways to disguise yourself to others, making yourself look magi to everybody except the next chosen one. But you will rarely need that I'm guessing. Mainly kings stick to here, unless searching for the next Chosen one, which only they alone can bite." He said.
Before he could continue, he said "And if you want to bring your newly made friends here, I'm sure we can make room for them. That isn't beyond our limits." His kindhearted smile came back at the thought of it.
The uncomfortable silence grew between Little Merigold and the king. Unlike her, he could hear every word he was saying, every question asked, every answer. He had tons of questions, as the kings usually had. As he had, and usually they'd go to the king before to answer their questions, not even bothering with the old vampire. Some of his questions had unsettling answers. He knew that, unless she needed to have something that could only be had if she hurt someone or harmed by who she was going to hurt, she was harmless. Still, the thought of her having Ancient Light, even the smallest amount was unsettling. Especially if she couldn't control it.
She just looked up, wondering when he'd be done talking, if there was another way to change him back to normal, if he wanted to be turned back. She didn't want to fight the King of Vampires, now that she met him, but would if she absolutely needed to.
He knew that. Hopefully, Magi Guard would choose to accept his position.
But that was the best he could do. Hope.
Finally, he came down, and told Little Merigold that they'd better head back home.
Mystic woke up, and noticed Little Merigold was gone. She worried, because Little Merigold never had, and, usually, never would leave the same places at night, not after her encounters with the undead.
She changed into the form Faolan had passed on to her, not needing it anymore because he had all the powers he wanted even if he passed it on, and went to find her.
Once she got to the castle, she felt the same way Little Merigold had, but to add to it she was ill at ease.
The guard spotted her, and was too afraid to say she couldn't pass, but he knew he had too, even if it meant death.
Mystic didn't intend on passing though the gate, however. Not unless she had too.
She asked the guard if he saw the two dragons she knew was missing, Magi Guard and Little Merigold.
"I don't know who Little Merigold and Magi guard are, but a magi and a vine went past the gate, if that helps." He said.
"Was the vine dragon a girl and the magi a boy who had bite marks on his neck?" She asked.
"Yes." He answered honestly.
She looked troubled at that thought. Maybe, despite the fact that Asteroids are falling in her eyes which look strangely like what space looks like on moons surface and the view is moving constantly, she's just an owner worried for her dragons.
He couldn't lie to her and say they wont get hurt.
"What's the chance of them getting killed in there?" She asked, only getting more worried.
"Matters on what they are doing. If they are just visiting, then they wont get hurt, even with every eye looking at them. If they are here for a horrible reason, like killing the vampire leader, the King of Vampires, then they are dead for sure." He said. He hated to make her worry more, but lying would hurt her in ways she couldn't comprehend.
They came out, just fine, unharmed, unhurt.
She sighed a sigh of relief, and silently, with the two dragons on her back, flew them home.
Little Merigold was as light as a feather, apparently born with hollow bones (all dragons, except water dragons, are probably born with hollow bones, even if they weren't meant to fly) which explained how the hatchling was able to get her up there.
"What were you guys doing in there?" Mystic asked, obviously sick with worry.
"I tried to see if there was a peaceful way to change me back to normal. There wasn't, but at least nothing harmful happened to either one of us...I hope." The magi hatchling said.
"Nothing happened to me, so we're both fine." Little Merigold said, griping on to Mystic a little tighter, not wanting to let herself look down.
"That's good. Next time, tell me when you leave or plan on it, will you?" Mystic asked.
"I would've, but you wouldn't let me." The magi said.
She sighed, knowing he was right.
Once they got home, Magi Guard was fast asleep in Little Merigolds vines. She was wide awake though, due to her being scared of being in the air. She was thankful to be back on her feet again.
Mystic said goodnight to them, and went to her room to sleep.
She set Magi Guard down next to Mystic, knowing he liked to be around her, despite some of the moods she sometimes shows.
When she went into her room, she sat on her bed, meant for a big cat, but she still fit in it.
She couldn't get to sleep, however.
Then a light lit up the room. It seemed like the light was turned on, except it was a blue light.
She tried to find the source. It was all around her, yet she couldn't figure out where it was.
Until one of her vines strayed in front of her, that is.
Little Merigold:
That glow...It came from her.
"How in the world?" She whispered in disbelief.
Chapter two: Only more problems to be found.
Shyam frill, the only frill in the family, saw the light from his room. It was dim to him, but he was across the house. That's got to say something.
I didn't know a dragon can summon daytime... He thought as he went toward it, attracted like it was a magnet and he was metal.
When he got there, the light dimmed mostly. He was still able to see it clearly, meaning he was very close to the target.
When he looked in the room the light was in, he saw Little Merigolds vines were glowing.
"How are you doing that?" He whispered.
"I don't know." Little Merigold whispered back.
"Alright." He said. Then he went back to his room to sleep.
Little Merigold thought dark, and it dimmed all the way to the tiniest glow, but didn't go away.
Then she thought light, and it lit her whole room as if it was day and everything in her room was blue.
Then she dimmed it again, and thought When I need that, I'll use it. Better not experiment more tonight.. Then she went to sleep.
The next morning, the Magi had thought about it all the way through the night. If they could just postpone the change until he was an adult, he'd take the job.
He asked Mystic if he could explore the forest some more. She said sure, not knowing that he was actually going to head toward the vampire castle.
After an hours flight, he saw it. It was less visible than before, almost invisible, but he still saw it.
Once he got onto the land, the darkness was back. Shadows from something were covering the castle, making light not hit it, yet it looked like it was getting direct sunlight from anyplace off the ground.
The gate opened before he could ask. He thanked the guard, who simply bowed his head, then he went in.
Nobody stared like last time. If they saw, they simply said good morning and bowed their heads before going back to what they were doing before.
He got to the kings room. The warriors let him through, since he couldn't, and wouldn't harm the current king. Mainly because he wasn't in the room.
Once there, he saw the room in the middle of the air, and flew up to it.
"Somehow I should've suspected you'd come today." He said.
"I'm sorry to disturb you, if that's what my visits do." Magi Guard said.
"No, you're visits don't disturb me at all." He said, and that kindhearted smile came back. "The fact that you visit is comforting, truthfully."
"Well...After thinking it through, I decided I'd try, at least. But could the kingdom wait till I'm an adult before making me their king, and before the full transformation is finished?" He asked.
"Before you rule them at all, that's what you're going to have to do. So yes, the kingdom can wait before making you their one king. However, the full transformation, once it starts, can't be controlled. We've tried before, when someone asked that so they could fully accept that they are a vampire before they became a full vampire, and it killed them. We can't risk that with you, even if you want us too, for your safety." He said. The smile faded as he explained the second half.
"I understand." He said.
Then he left. The old vampire knew that by the time the second week came, one of the vampires is going to bring him with them, and make sure he doesn't go back. If he asked about that, he'd have to be truthful.
Hopefully, he doesn't ask. He may be accepting the fact now, but if his freedoms were going to be removed and he knew it, it might not go down well. It never does.
Magi Guard felt like his body was being burned by the sun, but he didn't care.
He went down under the trees to protect from it, though, as he got closer to home.
When he got home, it was obvious to Little Merigold that he had a lot on his mind. He knew that. It was hard to hide.
Little Merigold motioned him into her room, and he came in.
She closed the door behind him.
Little Merigold: Have a lot on your mind?
Magi Guard: Yeah. The old vampire is helpful sometimes, but not all the time.
She didn't ask, surprisingly.
Little Merigold: Was he helpful this time?
Magi Guard:...Not really.
Little Merigold: What'd you ask?
Magi Guard: If they could somehow slow the transformation somehow, possibly?
Little Merigold touched his bite with a tiny bit of ancient light.
Magi Guard: Ow! What'd you do that for?
Little Merigold: Thought it would help slow the process a tiny bit.
Indeed, it did. By week two, his instincts, which had already was halfway changed in week one, was slowly reaching 2/3s changed to a vampire instinct. It slowed that by a lot.
By the third week Monday, he would have full instinct to stay away, if it was going normal speed. Now, by the time what he looked like was fully changed, his instinct change would be stopped at 85%.
"This isn't good. Not good at all." The King said, shaking his head slowly as he watched over Magi Guard and saw this change in speed.
"Should we proceed as planned, then try to find a way to reverse that change?" One of the guards asked.
"Hm... No. Bring him here, yes, but when he's an adult the instinct change will be easier to unfreeze. That is, if it's for the better." The King said. It was true that sometimes, an instinct not fully theirs ruling is better than one that is fully theirs.
Hopefully, this was one time where it was true.
"Yes, your highness." The guard said, then went off.
"Hopefully, you either have a way to keep him here or someone that can get in the way of the poisonous touch she has." The other guard said, mainly to the guard already leaving, then followed.
I will. Soon. He thought. He already had a way to keep him in, the gates would be locked from the outside as soon as the guard guarding it was inside, and nobody, hopefully, would be able to get in...Or out. If Magi Guard somehow managed to escape...Well...He didn't have a plan yet.
The full moon was over the dark shadowy night. It was clear of clouds, and Magi Guard was just out looking at the stars. He loved the view, and this might be the last view he got of it before doors closed. He hoped they could slow it down so freedoms wouldn't be taken away so quickly, but they couldn't.
He heard a tiny flap in the distance.
He flew up into the air, still being blocked from views because of the trees. Then he hid in a tree, hoping it would help him.
He saw two adult vampires, one girl and one boy, surprisingly, just taking a walk...Or so it seemed.
"What are we supposed to do?"The white vampire asked, the one who came with her almost unable to hear her. Both of them knew he had sharp senses.
"I don't know. We somehow have to get him to the castle. I don't know beyond that" He whispered, in the same volume, back.
She whispered a few strange words even the one who was right next to her couldn't hear, and, suddenly, the magi was knocked out. He was still in the tree, barely.
She ran up to the tree, and caught the knocked out Magi the king bit.
"What'd you do?" He asked, looking at the Magi hatchling, wondering what happened.
"I whispered a white magic spell backwards. It has backward effects when you do that." She said, then both of them flew, without a word, to the castle. He would probably wake up to see the now clueless old vampire, because this usually doesn't happen until the third week, but it was better than anywhere else they could put him.
Chapter three: When he wakes up, what has been happening inside him the whole time, and inspection.
He woke up, and asked "Where am I?"
"I don't know, but I think I'm where I always am." A voice he recognized said.
So I'm in the castle, then. He thought.
He got up, and walked out. At least he was still free to do that.
The others seemed inviting, as they always had.
He went inside after a while, seeing no possible way out.
The king seemed injured. Mentally, he was still fighting Magi Guard. He knew that he wasn't going to let up, although injured himself physically.
Meanwhile...
You can't stop me. Nobody can. Once they are bit and this fight happens, you're doomed.
No I am not! I still have free will, at least.
You're fighting a losing battle. Nobody has ever won against me. Nobody.
The orange dragon summoned a ball of light, one that had been given to him thanks to Little Merigold, (though it did hurt the host a bit), and blasted it at the part of the vampire he was fighting.
The vampire fell in pain. His eyes became Bloodshot, despite the fact that vampires don't actually have blood that could make that happen, and he hit the Orange dragon hard.
Magi Guard felt a raging pain all of a sudden, like he got hit hard in the head.
In the castle now, he sat down, hoping it would feel better soon. These pains got worse and worse.
The Orange dragon got up, but fell back down. He was unable to stand right now.
That's what you get for trying to battle me.
The vampire grabbed him, and put him in a cage. He hoped he wouldn't escape again. But he will. He always does.
Magi Guards pain went away. He knew it wasn't the end of it. It wouldn't end until he became a full vampire and couldn't escape it.
He didn't feel an urge to get up, like he used to. But he forced himself too, and went looking around to see if an exist was around.
When he got to where the guards were, some of them were sleeping in front of mist.
He was confused about that. He went up to the mist and touched it.
It felt like a moving rock with holes.
He looked for a way around it, and there was none.
He went back, feeling defeated.
He came back three days later.
"Hi!" A white hatchling who seemed to have too much sugar came up to him and said.
"Hello." He said, then continued on his way. He saw one guard today, one with dark green claws. The same one that usually guarded the entrance to the castle grounds.
He was just slightly scratching the mist. The scratches on the mist wall disappeared, of course, but he seemed rather bored.
The white hatchling spied something in the grass.
He looked, and saw nothing.
She went up to whatever she saw, and picked it up.
"Little Creature Nice." She said absentmindedly.
He came to look, and saw an ant. An ant was what she saw.
"Here, back in the hole you--Ah!!"
She fell.
He grabbed her paw before she could fall too far, but she was heavy.
Before she could respond though, before either one of them could respond, they were pulled up.
"We've really got to get that fixed." The guard that was earlier scratching the wall, that just saved them said.
"Yeah. Thanks for pulling me out of there." She said.
"No problem. It's the least I can do." He said.
He looked at an imaginary watch. She knew it was instinct for when he wanted to go away. Magi Guard didn't pay much attention to it.
"I've got to go do something. You two be careful, okay?" He asked.
"We will." She smiled a friendly smile, but Magi Guard saw a hint of grinning in it, which usually means she had a plan.
"Alright." He said, then left.
"Hm..." She said as she turned back to the hole.
Chapter 4: The ride.
When Magi Guard caught what she was thinking, instinctively he said "Don't even think about it."
"Think about what?" She asked, as if she was a little angel.
"Purposely going in the hole and dragging me with you." Magi Guard said.
"You're sneaky." She said. She looked in the hole, and she seemed to have seen something. Probably another ant.
"Well...See anything?" Magi Guard asked.
"Yeah...A pretty amazing thing. You should look for yourself." She said.
He went to see for himself.
It was a tunnel, with a slay, and it seemed to glow. After a bit of track, he could see the top of the cave.
"Gentlemen first." She said, then gave him a--light--push, forcing him in.
"Isn't it always 'ladies' first?" He asked as the sled closed over him.
She walked in, opened it, got in, then said "I'm not a lady. I'm a girl. There is a difference." Then she closed it.
He got on the seat, and the seat belt, which surprisingly helped, buckled itself for both of them. Then the sled, without any push, started moving.
"This will be fun. Trust me." She said.
Magi Guard whispered "What have I gotten myself--"
They started speeding at 70 Miles per hour down the hill.
"Into!" He finished, scared.
He could only see lights passing by, and they started going faster.
She was afraid that if she spoke her mouth would be pushed in by the force of the speed.
He saw a control bar. An army of ants seemed to be controlling it. Somehow.
He got as close as the seat belt, which tied him up, technically, would let him get to them, and found that they were robots. Little robots.
Both of them, when she figured it out, looked very nervous. She tried to reach the brake, but couldn't.
He closed his eyes, head hurting, and concentrated.
Brrrrmmmerm.
It stopped. Just in time, because if it didn't stop at that moment, they'd be going down the biggest, steepest downhill they'd ever ride.
"Why did it stop?!" One of them yelled at another. It didn't seem programmed, but it was.
"Don't look at me! I wasn't near the brake!" Another said.
"Guys, it came at a good time. Look." One that seemed less robotic than the others said, and went closer to the outside.
The others look, and saw the steep hill. They didn't see where the hill would end.
"Don't you think the passengers need some better protection against the speed, anyway?"
Before they could speak whatever their opinion was, another thing, that blocked out the force of the speed.
"Think you could let us off?" She asked.
The robots didn't hear her. They couldn't because of the thing around them, doing the protection.
All together, they pushed the accelerate lever up, and it started moving again.
No wind was pushing them back, but they screamed as they felt like they were going to rise and fall out of the seat, which was impossible at that point.
Of course, nobody heard them.
However, something from way back before written history, a mean thing much like the dragons of today, but much, much worse.
It was bigger than most dragons, even under the best care, would even dream of being. The cavern was bigger.
It turned toward the incoming ride, and its eyes narrowed. A half vampire and a vampire were in the ride, along with a bunch of small robots.
They were silent, until they saw the scariest thing, with a dark, evil like glare. Darkness seemed to surround it to an uncomfortable degree, even to her. And she likes darkness.
It was at the top of the hill, bigger than anything she had ever seen. The only thing showing was its eyes, glaring down at them.
They were going slowly uphill now, toward the gigantic beast.
It growled a growl terrifying to ear, showing its extremely sharp teeth, that only a vampire could possibly have. She knew it wasn't a vampire, and that's what scared her, even more than anything else about it.
"Uh...Oh..."
"I didn't plan him to wake up! This is bad...Just plain bad..."
"The only way to escape his grasp and icy fire is to go as fast as this ride could possibly go. We might not survive it."
The one not talking pushed the 900% faster lever, then the accelerate lever up.
One second, they were going up the hill, above the monster, and the next second the monster is chasing after them, ground shaking wildly.
She was panicking, but only in her head. She certainly didn't want to show she was scared, even if he was scared, too.
Claws were lightly scratching against the sled. She turned, and saw the dragon was right on their tail! Well...Not literally, but you get what I mean.
Five seconds after she saw the claws scratch the sled, she heard it.
They were going faster than the speed of sound, yet he was able to catch up to them.
"It isn't working!"
"Of course it isn't! It isn't one we made. It can't go 800 times faster than the speed of sound, which is what we need to go to lose this guy!"
As if by magic, the sled went...Faster.
It lost him, but then he blew his icy fire, planning to consume them in flame.
"Oh no!" She said. "What are we going to do?"
"Hold on tight you two, this might be beyond recommended speed for any vehicle..."
The sled was as fast as if could possibly go just after he said that, but the flame was still hitting the back of the sled.
"Three."
She was confused.
"Two..."
She was even more confused, but even more worried than confused.
"Now!"
...
They blasted out of there, barely escaping the flame.
"Gravity change, now activated." A fully robotic voice said, and the fall...Stopped.
The seat belt unstrapped itself, thinking it had been stopped perfectly on the ground.
The levers couldn't be moved, and were at a complete stop, so when they landed, it wouldn't be able to do anything.
The black dragon went out of the shadows, still black and shadowy.
She couldn't see clearly, but it seemed like the wind was fighting the black dragon. Many colorful things swirled around the invisible thing battling the black shadow dragon.
Those things started to glow, then the invisible thing pushed the black dragon into a glow, and he apparently hit his head hard on it, because he was unconscious.
A dragon appeared. Its glow was, surprisingly, rainbow. It appeared differently to everybody, because it was a dream dragon. Not like the daydream dragon. Probably a more powerful ancestor of one. It was silver with golden wings to them, and her eyes, gold, sparkled.
She--they assumed it was a girl, or lady--took the shadow dragon in her own hands, then flew away with him.
The other dragon, that now appeared in front of them, was light blue with a light silver glow. She--they also assumed this was a girl, or lady--had legs that looked like they weren't used often, and very strong, powerful blue wings with a silver outlining. A skywing ancestor, possibly?
She glided behind the floating sled, and blew gently on it.
It glided, with her guidance, all the way to Pine Forest. Then it landed softly on the ground, and she didn't have a clue where she was.
Chapter 5: (Could you suggest a name, please?)
They got out of the sled, now seeing the beautiful dragon that got them here where they could touch her, if they wanted to.
The other dragon caught up to her, and the shadow dude wasn't in her claws.
"Thank you for getting us out of that mess." Magi Guard said.
"No problem. We have to deal with the shadow jerks all the time." The golden eyed one said.
"Some of them aren't jerks, though, so we can't say that's their species." The light blue one said, looking at the other one.
"Anyway... Um...Is there any way I can thank you guys?" Magi Guard asked.
The girl vampire wanted to know the same thing, but was distracted too much by falling leaves to ask.
The one with the golden eyes whispered to Magi Guard the only thing they would be interested in him doing, since they can't do it and only he can, and the other one obviously didn't know the favor, because she looked confused as they left.
"Well... That was odd." She said.
"Yeah, just as you're weird." He said.
"But it was odd, though." She said, then followed him.
"You know that, even with his help, your plan wont work, right?" He asked the Silver Gold dragon.
"Maybe you're right, if it was just his help we were getting. Maybe you're wrong, since we are also going to get help from his friend, who has ancient light." She said.
The light blue dragon was slow to realize who that was, but when she figured out it was little Merigold, she opened her mouth to say something, but was interrupted. "Xin, before you say no way, she wont be in danger by them, since she can easily keep them and most of the undead away from her."
"Most...Isn't Szabaru dead Yanichel?" She asked.
"No." Yani told the truth.
"Fine. If she's in danger because of him, then you protect her until it goes away, okay?" Xin asked, and blew a little somewhat angry air at her face, as she would do in her human form when her hair got in the way of her eyes.
When Yani didn't respond, the shadow dragon asked "You don't want Xin to be mad, after what happened last time do you?"
"She was under someone else's control then." Yani turned to the Shadow dragon and said.
"She can still be a threat if she got angry, though it's harder to now. Either way, it's best that you agree to at least that." He said.
"Fine." She said.
Xin calmed down.
Once Magi Guard got the favor to Little Merigold, all 5 of them were teleported to the battle ground.
The king was out of reach, and, along with the gate guards, the ones guarding his front door were there, surrounding them.
"Hello. This was so unexpected...Wait...Not really." He said.
"Glad to see you too." Yani said sarcastically.
"And I thought you were smarter than that--challenging me is like suicide." He said.
"If it's like that, why don't you come into reach so we can actually fight you?" Yani asked.
"I want to see if you're really worth my time. I know Little Merigold and Magi Guard are, but you three are...Questioning." He said.
The shadow dragon looked rather amused as the guards backed away from him more.
"Sure you do... Sure..." Xin whispered.
As long as they don't get past my guards, then I'll be safe from ancient dragon wrath. He thought, as the battle began. He used magic to hold Little Merigold and Magi Guard back, so they couldn't fight.
Soon, there was only one guard left--the one with dark green claws-- against two of them, Yani being knocked out.
After taking the surrounding things in while backing away, he came up with a plan.
He flew up in the air, away from the king enough that he wasn't in danger because of that action. There was something hanging in midair, just watching that was rather heavy for such a small thing, and, with the right amount of force, he managed to knock Xin out with it while hurting it as little as he could.
It flew away, and she started falling.
Shadows caught Xin, even without shadow, the shadow dragon, moving to catch her.
Then it was one on one.
Shadow turned into a complete shadow when the guard tried to strike, and laughed at his confusion.
"Obviously, you don't know your opponent at all." He said. Turning his claws solid, he scratched the guard, leaving three scars over his right eye, then turned his claws back to shadow before he could grab them.
"Sneaky, sneaky." He said. He jumped back. He would wait until the middle of a pounce, when his body would have to be solid, and knock him out.
"You're pretty smart though. Coming up with a way to use your surroundings before Xin got really dangerous." He said, then started circling around him.
Once he has his back turned, I'll strike unless I see he's expecting it. Shadow thought as he circled.
He saw that he was not just expecting it, but he had a plan when he did strike, so he kept circling, hoping he'd get bored and think he'd not strike.
"I know you're going to wait till I'm not expecting it. It wont work." He said.
"I see." Shadow said. He turned his tail solid and wrapped around the guards paw.
He turned, only to find he wasn't completely solid.
"I hate the fact you can do that!" He growled.
"It's natural for that to be so." He said.
Then he got an idea, but didn't show it.
He flew up in the air. Before Shadow could make his tail shadow so his head would be shadow, too (because whenever one part of him is solid, his neck and head are too) he knocked Shadow out against the wall, turning him completely solid.
Then he slipped his foot out of his tails grasp once he was down on the ground.
The King got down, and said "Looks like it's us against you two, then." He said.
Oh snap... Magi Guard said, mainly afraid of the guard. After that battle, it was hard not to be afraid.
Little Merigold was trying to think an equation in her head that would make it so if she could the correct solution, she'd hit the king with Ancient light just right, either killing the king or turning him back to whatever he was before, and making the other vampires either weak, back to what they were before, or both.
She figured it out, and hit the guard with one of her vines. She planned on him grabbing it by instinct, and he did.
She threw him on the king, and shot both of them with a large amount of ancient light.
Magi Guard fell to his knees. All the vampires were hurting, and he was part, almost all vampire now. (This is the fourth week. He had trouble delivering the message.)
Magi Guard held in. He knew he'd turn back to normal if he did, so he knew it was worth it.
Little Merigold covered his ears and her own when the king screamed in pain, waking the ancient dragons out of unconsciousness.
They plugged their ears as well.
Then, all noise stopped.
They opened their eyes. The guard survived, still a vampire. The king, though, was an ugly green color. He seemed like he caught a sickness.
The guard tried to get up, but couldn't.
The king was able to get up, but, not used to his old selves frail legs anymore, he fell.
Magi Guard got up, obviously cured.
Shadow moved the obviously weak king out of the way, careful not to hurt him.
The other guards found they were normal, and saw the king. They didn't recognize him or each other.
"Is that you, your highness?" One of them, looking at the king, asked.
"Yes." He said, very weakly.
They tried, and they couldn't get up, either.
They looked at the guard still a vampire. They were confused. How come everybody else, even their king, either turned back to normal or died.
Unless...
"Are you alive?" The guard that could talk, a water dragon that'd probably die soon asked.
"...Er...Barely." He said, but his voice was barely audible.
Yani dragon worked her magic, sending all the water dragons to a lake where they can recover.
The other guards that turned back to normal she transported to the castle grounds, noticing they weren't there.
The guard looked at the king worriedly, and telepathically tried to talk to him, hoping it still worked.
Are you okay?
Yeah. Kind of. You're probably the one in a tight spot right now. The kings voice was faint, almost unable to be heard.
Thanks. That's so comforting. Well...I hope we both get out of this position soon.
Me...Too... The voice got softer.
He had a feeling the ancient dragons became conscious again, and were coming closer.
He gulped, very scared of what was probably going to happen.
"What should we do about him?" Yani asked.
"I'll decide that. The rest of you should go home--it's getting late." Shadow said.
They left moments after that.
"Should I even ask what's going to happen?" He asked.
"Since there is at least some good in you, unlike some of your species, I'll let you live. Though something's telling me you guys are going to have a hard time rebuilding the clan." Shadow said.
"What is it, then?" He asked.
He teleported them to where the old vampire is. He went to him, and the old vampire felt cold, despite the blanket over him.
"I think he's the normal kind of dead." Shadow said.
"No..." His voice was nothing but a whisper.
"I better get going. I can't help him, and I don't know anybody who can. I hope that, somehow, you do but it doesn't lead to this again." Shadow said truthfully, then left.
So Magi Guard was cured along with many of the vampires, who, after a while, thanked her for it, and that's all I know.
The End
The End
